Born in Everett, Washington USA in 1948. Raised and lived in Washington my entire life.
Accepted Jesus’s sacrifice for my sins when I was 12 years old in an Episcopal church in
Marysville, Wa. Moved to Camano Island in 1976. Switched to Camano Chapel from St. Aiden’s
Episcopal at that time.
Married in 1979 to Debra, we raised a daughter (Angela) and my nephew (David). My daughter was married in 2006 to a wonderful husband (Matt) and they have two lovely daughters (ages 9 and 6) which Debra and I greatly adore. Angela and Matt are strong and ever‐growing Christians and are raising their daughters to be strong in the faith. David accepted Christ in 2018 and is growing in the Way.
Christian life:
At Camano Chapel I have served as an usher, a Trustee, a missions committee member, and served in Awana. I have served on various short term missions trips to Haiti on medical, dental , construction and Moringa teams. Served as a group leader on several youth missions trips to Mexico at Miracle Ranch and FFHM (Foundation for His Ministry).
Career:
My career is in forestry and I have worked full time for Pilchuck Tree Farm since 1971 and part time with my own consulting business. In short, my job as tree farm manager includes managing the harvest of timber (our main product), reforesting the harvested sites and maintaining the optimum growth of the forest to produce a perpetual sustainable harvest of timber. God has blessed me with a career that I have loved to work at every day and has enabled me to support several foreign and domestic missionaries and missions.
Gary and Sharon Schaeffer

God: Sharon and I were baptized near our 30th anniversary and we start our day reading Psalms together followed by prayer. My favorite bible verse is Phil 3:10 “My determined purpose is to know God…” . I have daily biblical readings to help me know God in a deeper way.
Family: Sharon and I have been married for fifty (50) years. We have three adult children. Kyle married to Salena and four children. They reside in New Zealand. Brandon married to Naomi and two children. They reside on Camano Island. Aimee married to Jeff and three children. They reside in Hawaii.
Service: I serve on the Camano Chapel Missions board and have been a member for over 5 years. I am very passionate about missions and have been on short-term missions trips to Haiti for the last 10+ years. Part of our tithings goes toward missions related organizations. I also serve on a committee for a bible study /outreach at Camano Chapel (our home church)
Work: I retired from work at age 70. I was president of a real estate holding company and served in that position for 18 years. Accounting and cash projections were my strong skills and I enjoyed the work I was engaged in since 1973.
Activities: I enjoy time with my wife in activities of hiking, bicycling, camping and playing games. I also enjoy my time with my prayer partner, Bible study group, and numerous family and friends.
